About the game

Punishing: Gray Raven is an action RPG from Kuro Games, the same studio that later made Wuthering Waves. A virus called Punishing wrecked Earth and turned machines and augmented humans into the Corrupted; what survives of humanity orbits the planet aboard the Babylonia station and drops squads of androids, the Constructs, onto the surface. You command one of those squads.

How it plays

Combat is real-time hack-and-slash with a team of three. Skills arrive as colored orbs on a grid, and chaining three of a kind fires the upgraded version, so there is a planning layer sitting on top of the reflexes. A well-timed dodge triggers Matrix, a bullet-time window for punishing the boss.

The campaign runs through long chapters told in visual-novel format, with plenty of text between fights. Outside the story there are endurance modes, Phantom Pain Cage and Warzone, plus co-op content to play alongside others.

What you pay for, and what you don't

The game is free and there is no wall: story and endgame are fully playable without paying. Monetization runs through the Construct and weapon gacha. A single pull costs 250 Black Cards, an S-rank sits at a 0.5% base rate, and the hard pity lands at 60 pulls, roughly 15,000 Black Cards from zero; new accounts get a special guarantee at 40.

Some event banners raise the base rate to 1.5% and move the guarantee to a random point between 80 and 100. Daily and weekly missions hand out around 1,210 Black Cards a week. The monthly pass costs USD 4.99 for 100 a day plus 330 on purchase, 3,330 per cycle, and there is also a seasonal battle pass and standalone skins.

Where the game stands

Kuro Games keeps a new version landing roughly every six weeks, each with an S-rank Construct, a story chapter and its own events, and through 2026 the cadence held without gaps. The public roadmap still points at the Transatlantic Economic Community and the Phylotree of Ousia; the official site posts every version in detail.

It launched on mobile in 2021, added its own PC client in 2023 and reached Steam in February 2026, with progress shared across platforms. Steam concurrents run in the hundreds, peaking near 1,300, because most of the player base sits on mobile and on the PC client: the game had already passed 20 million downloads back in 2020.

Who it's for

It fits anyone after an action RPG that demands fast hands and who can live with the gacha model. The complaints repeat on Steam, where it holds 73% positive reviews across 1,444: a long tutorial, a confusing interface early on, a story that takes a while to get going. And there is a hard barrier: no Spanish. Interface and subtitles cover English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese and Korean.
