Continent of the Ninth Seal
About the game
Continent of the Ninth Seal, or C9, is a Korean action MMORPG that launched in 2012. Cloud 9 Studio built it for Webzen, and VALOFE has run it since 2021. The campaign opens in Glenheim, where your character joins the resistance against Nefer, a villain set on opening a gate to the Netherworld and turning his legion loose on the region.
No targeting, just aim
What sets C9 apart is that there is no auto-targeting: you aim every strike yourself and chain hits into combos, with keyboard and mouse or a gamepad. Fights ask for positioning and timing rather than clicking a target and waiting on cooldowns.
The open world is not the point. Nearly all the content sits inside instanced dungeons you clear alone or in a party, across several difficulty tiers, with skill points as the payout. Progressing means running the same instances at harder settings.
Five classes and PvP that matters
You pick from five base classes: Fighter, Hunter, Shaman, Witchblade and the newer Mystic. At level 20 each one branches into three specializations with their own weapons and feel. Worth knowing before you roll a character: every class is locked to a fixed gender, and that is not a choice.
PvP is not a side mode. There is ranked 1v1 arena, team formats up to 8v8, and an intrusion system that lets you invade another player's dungeon run while it is happening.
What you pay for, and where you play
C9 is free to play, with no box price and no subscription. The shop runs on GCOIN, VALOFE's paid currency, and sells cosmetics, class change scrolls and gear enhancement items; the Enhance Stones and Souls that upgrade weapons and armor also drop in play and through events. There is exactly one way in now: the VFUN client, downloaded from the official site. The game was listed on Steam back in September 2012, but that page no longer sells it and the Steam client is unsupported.
Where it stands today
The game is live and gets regular maintenance, though at a noticeably smaller scale than in its Webzen days. Account migration to VFUN began on September 14, 2021: characters carried over, with a compensation package for players who moved, but the old paid currency (wcoin) did not transfer, so anyone who had not spent it lost it.
VALOFE ran two versions in parallel for a while, until February 18, 2025, when it merged C9 Golden into C9 Global's Asia server, transferring characters, resetting stamina and rankings, and force-renaming duplicate characters and guilds. Announcements no longer go through Steam: they come from the official site, the Discord and the VALOFE forums.
Who it is for: anyone after hands-on action combat, tiered dungeon difficulty and ranked PvP, who does not mind a 2012 game with a slow content cadence. The last large addition on record dates to 2019, with the Mystic Manacrafter class and a 4v4 competitive mode. On population there is nothing to offer: neither Webzen nor VALOFE has published active player numbers.
