Gloria Victis
About the game
Gloria Victis is an open-world medieval MMORPG with a low-fantasy tone: no fireballs, no fixed classes—just a world that chases realism over spectacle. Combat is non-target action, where footwork, timing, and reading your opponent matter more than raw stats. Progression is classless: you develop what you actually play, not a template locked in at character creation.
PvP, territory, and a player-run economy
Its heart is open-world PvP built around territory control. Guilds and factions clash over castles and regions in large-scale sieges, with partial gear loss on death—a real stake that gives every fight weight—and an economy driven entirely by players. Crafting runs deep, with disciplines that feed the whole world's supply chain: gathering, producing, and supplying the fighters is a way to play in its own right. This is a medieval-war sandbox far more than a guided-quest MMO.

Business model: free-to-play
Since its relaunch, Gloria Victis is free-to-play: you download and play it for free on Steam. It was previously buy-to-play (around $20 during Early Access). Monetization leans on cosmetics and conveniences, with paid bundles ranging from ~$14 (Horseman edition) up to ~$69 (Merchant edition). The official FAQ insists it is not pay-to-win and that everything comes down to skill. Veterans can reclaim the premium cosmetics they already owned on their account, while progress from the betas and playtests was wiped for a clean start. Distribution is Steam-exclusive.
Current state
The game is live on Steam after its June 17, 2026 relaunch under Gamigo, credited as developer and publisher after fully acquiring the license from the original Polish studio, Black Eye Games. That studio shut down in 2023, which left the original Gloria Victis offline for about two years before this return. Reception is mixed: roughly 67% positive reviews across its full history, but trending downward in recent ones, with complaints about the relaunch's technical state and the publisher's reputation. The post-launch roadmap is headed by the return of State of War, a guild-siege system with customizable castles on clan islands. Long-term population and support are still to be confirmed.

Who it's for (and who it isn't)
Gloria Victis is a niche, demanding, community-first MMO. It'll click with anyone after hardcore territorial warfare, real stakes on death, guilds that matter, and a world whose economy is built by players. It's not for those who want guided PvE, comfortable progression, or forgiving combat: the curve is steep, and the sandbox rewards players who plug into a community. Honestly, it carries baggage too—a relaunch with technical rough edges, lukewarm recent reviews, and a future that hinges on Gamigo delivering its roadmap and keeping the population alive. If that doesn't scare you and realistic medieval combat appeals, there's an MMORPG here with a strong identity of its own—and it's free to try.
