About the game

Hero Plus is MGAME's martial-arts MMORPG, the game that reached the West in 2006 as Hero Online and resurfaced under its current name on Steam in January 2018. The wuxia is not set dressing: the Great Dragon, the hero who held twenty years of peace together, turns up dead, his widow warns that the Twelve Demons are back, and the clans start carving up the map.

Five heroes and a 2006 world

You pick from five fixed characters, with no appearance editor at creation. Each one handles three weapon types and branches through two job advancements, the first at level 10. Combat is point-and-click, and stat points go into Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence by hand.

The engine is as old as it looks: the recommended specs still name a GeForce 4 and ask for five gigabytes of disk, and it shows in both the interface and the size of the world. What keeps people logged in is everything around the grind — mounts, pets, player shops, crafting, scheduled clan wars and hunting grounds that now stretch to level 280.

What you pay for

Free to play with no entry purchase: download it from Steam or from the launcher on the official site, and there is no subscription and no DLC. Money goes in through the in-game premium shop, the Hero Tavern, and a top-up button on the website. What it sells is timed buff pills, costume boxes, convenience materials such as Illusion Holy Water, needed to change an item's appearance, and seasonal packs that rotate close to monthly. Prices only show up inside the client.

Where it stands

Support is split between Smartbig USA, which runs the Western version, and Mgame in Korea. Maintenance lands every two weeks on Wednesdays, with patch notes posted on the official site. Most of the calendar is seasonal events, and Christmas and New Year are the busiest of them.

Big content arrives once or twice a year. The Death Valley hunting ground, for levels 260 to 280, opened in February 2025 with new bosses and an entrance tied to the Twelve Demons quest line; the appearance-change system followed in July 2025, with its own shop in Dragon Castle and effects applied independently of class.

Population is the weak spot. On Steam the game runs between 30 and 36 concurrent players, against an all-time peak of 138 back in February 2018. The standalone launcher is not counted there and the operator publishes no figures, so the real total is higher, though how much higher nobody says. Steam reviews sit at 62% positive out of 277.

It works for anyone after a slow-burn MMORPG built on clans and wuxia looks, on hardware that would choke on anything modern. It does not work for anyone expecting action combat, visual customization or crowded cities: the player base is small, often the same faces, and a 2006 interface asks for patience before it gives anything back.
