Overgeared
About the game
Overgeared —officially titled Temppal: Overgeared— is Nexon's next large-scale MMORPG, developed by South Korean studio Grey Games. It adapts the web novel of the same name, a Korean fantasy phenomenon with over 1.3 billion cumulative views that broke out abroad too: number one on the Wuxiaworld platform and fourth in sales on Japan's Piccoma. The adaptation isn't just skin-deep: it takes the novel's core idea and turns it into a game system.
Gear is power
The source story follows Grid, an unremarkable player in the VR game Satisfy who lands the legendary Blacksmith class and turns his fortunes around by forging and wearing the world's best gear. The game builds its design around that premise: you don't win on reflexes or a flavor-of-the-month build, but on what you're wearing. Progression revolves around acquiring, crafting and enhancing items, and that loop —hunt materials, forge, upgrade, gamble on the enhancement— is the backbone of the experience.
On top of that foundation, Nexon promises the depth of a classic MMORPG: long-term character growth and large-scale competition in a fantasy world. It's designed as a cross-platform title, playable on PC, iOS and Android —the usual approach for the studio's and publisher's recent MMORPGs.
Current state: barely out of the gate
The game is in development. It was announced in 2024 as Project T, and only in mid-2026 did Nexon confirm the final title, open the official teaser site, unveil its brand identity and launch its official channels alongside a first symbolic trailer —swords rising through blue light, under the tagline "gear is power." The stated goal is a simultaneous Korean and global launch within 2026, but there's no concrete date or beta window yet. For now there's no real gameplay shown, no classes, no content details: information will be doled out through official channels.
The business model isn't confirmed either. Nexon hasn't announced how it will monetize, there are no editions, prices or trial, and the game isn't for sale. Given the publisher's profile and its recent cross-platform MMORPGs, the likeliest setup is free-to-play with a store for cosmetics and conveniences —but treat that as an estimate until there's an official announcement. On PC it would ship through Nexon's own client, with no confirmed Steam page for now.
Who is it for?
If you're drawn to MMORPGs where the gear grind is the point rather than a means to one —crafting, enhancing, chasing that one piece that reshapes your character— Overgeared is aimed squarely at that. It's also a compelling pick for anyone who followed the web novel and wants to see its world made playable, and for the mobile/PC player after a big MMORPG with cross-device progress. Nexon's name guarantees production muscle and long-term live-service support.
Now the honest part: right now there's almost nothing to play or even see. This is an announcement with brand identity and a teaser —no gameplay, no firm date, no confirmed business model. The "gear is power" design is a double-edged sword: well balanced, it's an addictive progression loop; poorly monetized, it's the doorway to pay-for-power that drags down so many Korean free-to-play MMORPGs. It's worth keeping on your radar, but any real verdict should wait until there's gameplay and, above all, the fine print of its store.
