Nexon has ended years of speculation by officially confirming its next major MMORPG: Overgeared, an adaptation of the popular Korean web novel of the same name. The project had been in development under the codename Project T by the studio Gray Games, and it now has a final title and a launch window for this year, with a simultaneous domestic and global release.
From Web Novel Phenomenon to MMORPG
Overgeared is no minor IP. The original web novel ran from 2014 to 2024 and racked up more than 1.3 billion views in Korea alone, on top of ranking first in popularity on Wuxiaworld and fourth in sales on Piccoma, the Japanese digital comics and novels platform. An anime is also on the way, so the universe arrives at the game with a built-in reader base.
The story belongs to the LitRPG genre: it follows Shin Young-woo, an ordinary guy whose life is upended when he gains special powers inside Satisfy, a medieval-set video game. It's a premise tailor-made for an MMORPG, because the source material already frames its world in terms of progression, gear, and in-game status.
What the Game Promises
On the gameplay side, Gray Games is aiming for a traditional MMORPG with a heavy focus on equipment-based progression and large-scale competition, two pillars that line up with what this audience expects. The studio bills itself as a team with prior experience in MMORPG development and live-service operations — no small detail in a genre that lives or dies by its post-launch support.
Overgeared is targeting PC and mobile (iOS and Android) and has already opened official communication channels ahead of launch.
