About the game

Requiem is a horror MMORPG that launched in 2008 and has changed names almost as often as it changed teams: it shipped as Bloodymare, became Memento Mori, reached Steam in 2015 as Rise of the Reaver, and now runs as Requiem: Desiderium Mortis. The tone never moved. Ethergia is a world wrecked by the Thanatos Incident, and the game sells that with explicit gore, malformed creatures and a bestiary that was never meant to look pretty.

Combat is old-school tab-targeting, PC only: four races, two base classes each and specializations from level 50 on. Its two signature ideas are Beast Possession, which turns your character into a monster for a few minutes once the gauge fills, and Nightmare enemies, which spawn only during the server's night window and demand a full party.

What you pay for

It is free to play, with no box price and no subscription: you download it from Steam or from the WarpPortal client. The in-game store runs on Kafra Points, the same wallet your WarpPortal account uses elsewhere, and mostly sells cosmetics, mounts and consumables, with minor stat bonuses attached to outfits. At relaunch, Gravity pulled several items it considered too influential on character power, lucky boxes among them; the official site publishes no current price list.

Where the game stands now

Gravity shut the original servers down in 2021, after thirteen years and with Steam peaks of barely 27 concurrent players. An internal team named Team Nightmare was put on cleaning up the code and the economy, and on August 25, 2022 the game came back on the same appid. The return was rough: client crashes, registration failures and players locked out by region.

The structural changes cut open-world PvP back in favor of PvE: instanced 10v10 battlegrounds, 50v50 wars, a reworked leveling curve and a level 69 cap. There is no public roadmap and no announced patch cadence, and the last big documented addition is the update to the Honor and alternate advancement system.

Requiem: Desiderium Mortis, the name it runs under today.

The relaunch peaked at 331 concurrent players in August 2022; through 2026 the averages sit between 13 and 18, with one isolated spike in May. Requiem works if 2008-vintage gore and slow tab-targeting are exactly what you want, and if leveling alone or with a handful of friends is enough for you. For a Nightmare party or a full 10v10 battleground, the population is no longer there.
