About the game

Wartale is an isometric action MMORPG that keeps Priston Tale running. Triglow Pictures launched the Korean original in 2001; this is not its official server but an independent project that has been adding content of its own since 2012. It all happens in Efria, split between two peoples: the Morion, who lean on magic and faith, and the Tempskron, who trust muscle and machinery.

Between them the two peoples field eleven classes, including a Brawler that never existed in the original and came out of the server team. Combat is pure early-2000s ARPG: hold the mouse down, wade into packs, then grind your gear through aging, mixing, gems and sockets.

What the server added

On top of that base sits a layer the original never had: instances like the Sunken Domain and the Hellfire Catacombs, the Hell's Gate event, the Bless Castle siege, ranked 3v3 Battlegrounds, collectible mounts and minions, and four professions (mining, herbalism, fishing and cooking). Each system has its own guide on the site.

Priston Tale's isometric look, intact twenty-five years on.

What you pay for

Playing costs nothing: make an account, download the 8.5 GB client and you are in. Money moves through the Coin Shop, which sells well beyond cosmetics: potions with 25% extra EXP, an item for +1 drop, another for 5% crit, PvE invulnerability, and a talisman for transferring accounts without getting scammed.

Staff argue on the forums that everything in the Coin Shop is also reachable by playing, and server lists advertise it as no pay to win. High-level players on those same forums push back with endgame numbers: 2,449 coins for a single piece of level 133 gear, with packs that go up to 9,999. Free to play for real, expensive if you chase the ceiling.

Where it stands

The server is alive and still being worked on. The current patch, Crimson Plunder, landed in March 2026 with a pirate faction, treasure maps that flip War Mode on near the chests, the Master Tamer system and its Shiny minion variants, 14 new mounts and minions, and a move to Direct3D 11.

The server has been adding its own content since 2012: instances, sieges and Battlegrounds.

The rhythm has been one big expansion a year plus patches in between: the Sunken Domain in June 2023, Battlegrounds that December, the Hellfire Catacombs in September 2024, minions the following December. The official forums claim 103,116 members and run language subforums; Portuguese is by far the busiest and Spanish is there, much smaller.

It runs on Windows 10 or 11 with 4 GB of RAM and 20 GB of disk, so almost any machine will do. What you get is a 2001 game with 2026 patches: dated visuals, long grinds and an interface that never apologizes. Worth it if you want an old-school massive ARPG with people still in it and you do not mind reading guides. If you want a modern MMORPG, look elsewhere.
