About the game

Fractured Online is an isometric sandbox MMORPG from Dynamight Studios, a small Italian team, and its core idea lands fast: enemies go down through aim and reading a fight, not through better gear. Aiming is free-form, dodging actually matters, and progression runs on skills and talents instead of gear tiers.

The knowledge system rewards studying whatever kills you: beat a creature, learn its ability, master it. There are over 400 abilities and 40 status effects to combine. The economy points the same way, since every item in the game is player-crafted. Gear gets made, bought or traded, never dropped by a boss.

Three planets, cities and sieges

The world splits across three planets, which the studio describes as ever-changing worlds. On them players raise settlements that can grow into full cities, with a governor deciding whether the place leans social, commercial or military, and then holding it against raids and sieges.

Endgame PvP lives on the asteroids: competitive events where groups fight for control and influence and carry back relics that push their settlement forward. That is where crafting, town politics and combat meet, and where everything built on the ground gets put at risk.

What it costs

It hit Early Access on September 15, 2022 with gamigo publishing: a $15 box, an optional VIP subscription and tiered founder packs. Dynamight split from the publisher in 2023, left Early Access in July 2024, and on November 20, 2024 dropped the box price to go free-to-play, with 90-day seasons and a reward pass.

Buyers got a free month of VIP, and founders with lifetime VIP got their purchase value back as store currency. Since the shutdown there is nothing to buy: the Steam page lists the game as unavailable. The relaunch goes back to a single purchase, around $30 with a cosmetics-only shop, and compensation for earlier buyers and backers was left as a separate matter, still undetailed.

Where it stands: servers off

In January 2025 the studio spelled out where it was: three founders left, unpaid for two years, with neither the launch nor the free-to-play switch coming close to expectations. That May, Happy Cauldron Games bought the IP, and on June 15, 2025 the Fractured Online servers were switched off for good.

The new studio is rebuilding from the foundations: the networking layer replaced with Coherence, a new visual style, new creatures and resources, and a design turn from all-purpose sandbox to persistent three-faction warfare, renamed Fractured Conquest. Testing is closed, invite-only and under NDA, and started on February 19, 2026.

The May 7 test added the Spellweaver and Anointer archetypes, quadrupled the tester count and ran servers around the clock; the July 23 one overhauled building and brought Tier 1 walls and watchtowers plus a vision and cover system. No Early Access date for the relaunch has been announced.

So right now Fractured Online is for people who like crafting sandboxes, town politics and sieges, and who can wait for a game that is unplayable outside an invite. The original closed with Mixed reviews on Steam, 56% positive across 1,317, and the studio never published population numbers. Sign-ups for the closed tests run through the official site.
