Hollowed Oath
About the game
Hollowed Oath is a fantasy MMORPG set in Orrathis, a fractured world its gods walked away from. You play an Oathsworn, someone who resisted the Hollow's corruption and tied their fate to the world's. It comes from God Mode Games, a studio built out of people who worked on The Heroes Journey, an EverQuest private server.
That background shows in the design: a classic, co-operative MMORPG built on long progression rather than fast action. The boldest piece is character building. There are 16 classes and every character runs three at once, with a synergy system that pays off when you chain abilities across those branches. The studio counts 560 possible combinations.
The rest of the game follows suit: ten open-world regions, instanced dungeons called Echoes, factions with reputation, and crafting with real weight. The Journey system exists for short-session players and drops them straight into a dungeon or an event with no setup in between.
Where the game stands
God Mode Games showed its first pre-alpha gameplay in April 2026, about six months into development, and has been shipping numbered patches at a steady pace since. Patch 0.17, from July 2026, added item attunement and closed the disconnect escape hatch: your character stays vulnerable for a while after logout.
The alpha is aimed at Q4 2026, and the official site lists no release date. The funded roadmap covers expanded quests, new playable races, more Echoes, player markets, advanced mounts, PvP and camps, but only the first of eight stretch goals (from $150,000 up to $3.5 million) was ever unlocked.
What you pay for
The access model has not been announced. The Steam page is marked coming soon with no price and declares in-app purchases; the only thing the studio has said about them is that in-game monetisation will be cosmetic only. One-time purchase, subscription or free-to-play is still open.
The only money that has changed hands so far came from the Kickstarter, which ran from May 4 to June 3, 2026 and raised $167,295 from 711 backers against a $100,000 goal. Tiers ran from $10 to $10,000, with closed phase-2 beta access starting at $50.
Who it's for
If you want a co-operative MMORPG with slow progression and room to experiment with builds, this is one of the more concrete pitches among the genre's independent projects. The warning is a big one: there is nothing to play yet. With no public servers there are no population figures and no reviews, and Steam flags a mandatory third-party account, the studio's own server-side anti-cheat and AI-generated content. Anyone who didn't back the Kickstarter waits for the alpha.
