Legends of Equestria
About the game
Legends of Equestria is a free fan-made MMORPG set in the world of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It was built by the LoE Team, an international group of volunteers who spent five years on it in Unity before opening the doors in September 2017. There is no commercial studio behind it, and the design shows it: the weight sits on exploring, socializing and customizing your pony rather than on optimizing builds.
You pick one of three races: earth pony, unicorn or pegasus, each starting in a different town, Ponydale, Cantermore or Cloudopolis. The talent system mixes magic with trades like herbalism, mining, cooking and party planning. Combat exists and is deliberately harmless: you fight with apples, cakes, pies and horseshoes.
Free, with no asterisks
Free here is not a marketing label: there is no cosmetics shop, no battle pass, no subscription, no paid edition, and the official FAQ states the team does not even take donations. It is not on Steam either: the client comes from the official site for Windows, macOS and Linux, with free mobile versions on Android since August 2021 and iOS since April 2022.
Where it stands today
The game is live and in continuous development since 2017, with YEAR.NN.NNN versioning and seasonal patches, a handful per year. The most recent known build is 2026.01.001, released in June 2026; the previous public reference, 2025.06.001, was the winter update that buried the map in snow and ice.
A good share of those patches brings back annual events like the Festival of Lights, which scatters lamps across Equestria: you collect sparks and hand them to Cindermane for exclusive rewards. The cost of running everything on volunteer time showed in April 2024, when the team shut down Europonia, the European server. Only the Americas server is left, and European players still log in there with worse ping. There are no public population figures and no published roadmap.
Who it's for
This is an MMO for wandering, chatting and collecting, and its natural audience is the show's: the towns, the characters and the tone all come from there. It also works as a first MMORPG for someone who has never played one, since there is no shop economy to learn. The weak side is the same thing that makes it possible: new content arrives in trickles, one server carries everyone, and nobody promises a schedule. Deep progression or monthly patches are not on offer.
