About the game

MapleStory M is Nexon's mobile take on its 2D side-scrolling MMORPG: the same platforming world, the same cartoon art, thirty-plus classes split across Warrior, Magician, Archer, Thief and Pirate. It launched on iOS and Android in 2018, and since March 2026 it is on Steam as well, with progress shared across platforms.

Auto-battle sets the pace

Progression runs on auto-farming: pick a map and your character fights on its own. It unlocks at level 20 with 120 minutes, refills two free hours a day up to a 360-minute cap, and past that you spend tickets. Dungeons, weekly bosses, guilds and player trading sit on top of that.

What you pay for

It is free to play with no subscription, and the shop is heavy. Crystals are the paid currency, and Golden Apple is the main gacha: 90 Crystals a pull or 900 for a 10+1, with top prizes at rates as low as 0.02%. Auto-battle bundles run from five to fifty dollars.

Star Force gear upgrading can downgrade an item or destroy it on a failure, and protection scrolls are on sale. Pets grant stats, not just company. The loudest player complaint is that the paid gap is permanent stats rather than convenience, though no official documentation confirms how that works.

Where it stands

Support is real: 2026 brought a patch almost every month, with classes and regions imported from PC MapleStory. July's BREEZE update added the Lara class, the Cernium (Before) region, Grandis symbols and an eighth-anniversary event. The official site posts every update.

The player base is where it has always been, on phones: 5 million-plus downloads and 4.4 and 4.7 star averages on Google Play and the App Store. Steam is marginal, peaking around 450 concurrent players, with Mostly Negative reviews at 37% positive over monetization and port quality.

It fits anyone who wants Maple in short bursts on a phone, with no demand on reflexes: your character makes progress while you watch. Anyone expecting a real PC port gets the mobile client in a window, browser login and offer banners included. And the top-end gear sits behind the shop.
