The Ship Showdown Returns: Star Citizen Lets Its Community Crown the Best Ship
Star Citizen's Ship Showdown is back: over the coming weeks the community nominates, creates and votes for its favorite ships, with prizes for artists and free flight to test the finalists from August 26 to September 2.
The Ship Showdown is back in Star Citizen. One of the biggest community events in Cloud Imperium's project kicks off a new edition where players nominate, create for and rally behind their favorite ships. Over the coming weeks, the community decides which vehicle deserves to be crowned the best in the 'verse.
How it works
The first phase opens nominations from July 28 through August 14: you compete by posting creations —artwork, music, replicas, any tribute— to the official Community Hub or to X using the #StarCitizen and #ShipShowdown hashtags. From there, the ships with the most momentum climb an eight-round bracket until a final vote crowns the winner. The full rules are posted on the official site.
What entrants win
RSI staff will pick ten winning creations from the Community Hub and five from X, and each one earns a Kruger L-22 Alpha Wolf ship. Backers who rally behind the champion ship get a manufacturer-themed bomber jacket. The biggest prize goes to the fleet itself: the top four finalist ships will receive exclusive limited-edition paints and companion items, handed out for free later this year to every backer who owns those models.
Free flight to try them out
From August 26 to September 2, the ships still standing become free to fly, so anyone can hop in and test their favorites before the deciding vote. That's the part that makes the Showdown more than an art contest: for those days the universe fills up with players piloting ships they may never have bought.
The Ship Showdown doesn't change the game or add new content, and if you don't follow Star Citizen closely you can safely skip it. But as a thermometer for a huge, hyperactive community —and as an excuse to fly a handful of expensive ships for free— it remains one of the calendar moments its fans look forward to. This edition also lands right next to the Foundation Festival, the event built to get new players into the universe.
