Angmar and Mordor have an expiry date: LOTRO winds down its legendary worlds

Standing Stone Games has published the remaining schedule for Angmar and Mordor, the two legendary worlds The Lord of the Rings Online opened back in August 2024. The finish line now has a date: the last content update arrives on January 13, 2027, and after that all that's left is moving characters out.

Two steps come first. On September 9, 2026 the level cap climbs to 115 alongside the Mordor and Northern Mirkwood content. On December 16 the worlds get Minas Morgul, War of Three Peaks and Blood of Azog, and the final update pushes the cap to 140 with Gundabad, Before the Shadow and King's Gondor.

The pace is tight by design: a run of expansions that took years to land on the live game gets compressed into a little over four months here. Legendary worlds are VIP-only progression servers that start from the original game and unlock content in stages.

From that same January 13 through March 30, 2027, character transfers off these worlds are free. The studio notes in its announcement that every date is tentative, since they ride along with the game's regular updates and could shift.

The post leaves big gaps. There's no shutdown date, no word on which worlds characters can move to or whether either server outlives March, and no mention of a next batch of legendary worlds. For now, March 30, 2027 is the only hard deadline on the record.
