Palworld Online: Garena confirms an open-world mobile MMO for this year

Palworld Online: Garena confirms an open-world mobile MMO for this year

Garena is adapting Palworld into a mobile MMO with an original story, world bosses and shared bases. It arrives on mobile later this year.

The creature-collecting survival phenomenon is taking an unexpected leap: Garena has announced Palworld Online, an open-world mobile MMO based on Pocketpair's game. It's not a straight port of the PC original but an adaptation built from the ground up for a massive, always-online format, with its own narrative content. The launch is planned for later this year on mobile devices, with monetization details and an exact date still to be confirmed.

What Palworld Online is

The foundation is the one that made Palworld famous: you explore an open world, catch Pals (rare variants included), build bases, automate production and set up defense systems. The twist is the MMO scale: shared settlements, group base-building, world bosses in the PvE side and PvP competition for those who want to test their strength. In short, Palworld's survival fantasy reimagined to be populated by other players rather than a handful of friends on a private server.

Where it diverges most from the original is the story. Garena promises narrative and side stories exclusive to this version, plus new lore elements. It's a notable choice: rather than leaning on brand recognition alone, the mobile adaptation is betting on having its own context and its own reasons to be played.

Garena at the helm

On the publishing side, Garena is no stranger to the genre: it owned Dauntless and has experience shipping live-service titles, with particular muscle in the mobile market. Company president Terry Zhao framed the project as an opportunity to "bring the essence of the PC title to mobile in a way that encourages players to connect and venture together." The takeaway is clear: less solitary survival, more social play.

What's still unknown

The usual questions for an announcement like this remain, and they're the ones that will decide whether it's worth it. The business model —crucial in a mobile free-to-play— hasn't been detailed yet, and a lot of the game's reputation rides on it: the pay-to-win specter always haunts mobile adaptations of popular games. There's no exact date either, only the "later this year" window, nor fine confirmation of platforms beyond mobile. For now, it's a big announcement with plenty of headlines and several asterisks: we'll have to see how creature-crafting survival translates to a phone screen and to thousands of players sharing the same world.
