Guild Wars 3 introduces its composer and unveils its main theme

ArenaNet revealed that Kazuma Jinnouchi is behind the music of Guild Wars 3 and released a behind-the-scenes video featuring the MMORPG's main theme.

ArenaNet kept up its weekly trickle of Guild Wars 3 news, and this time the spotlight landed on what usually stays in the background until a session begins: the music. The studio confirmed that composer Kazuma Jinnouchi is leading the MMORPG's soundtrack and, along the way, let players hear the game's main theme for the first time in a behind-the-scenes video.

Jinnouchi is no random pick: he's a BAFTA Games Awards–nominated composer with a long track record in game music. In the video he explains how he works alongside ArenaNet's audio team to build the sonic landscape of an as-yet-undiscovered era of Tyria, chasing a sound of its own without betraying the identity the series has carried since the original Guild Wars.

Honoring the legacy without repeating it

What the material hints at is exactly that tension between memory and novelty: recognizable themes, orchestral storytelling and fresh ways of bringing Tyria to life sit next to the idea of opening a different chapter. For a community with a particular fondness for the music of Guild Wars 2, hearing where the third entry's tone is heading says plenty about the game ArenaNet wants to deliver.

There's no release date or gameplay detail in this announcement, but it fits a clear strategy: ArenaNet wants to keep Guild Wars 3 in the conversation week after week. For now, music is the card it's playing, and it's one of the hardest to fake.
