Guild Wars 3 paints its humans as settlers, not the fallen empire of Tyria
ArenaNet published the first playable species profile for Guild Wars 3, and humans lead off: seven centuries in Tyria, four centers of power, and a frontier called Orr. No gameplay details yet.
ArenaNet has started a run of narrative profiles for the playable species in Guild Wars 3, and humans go first. The piece is signed by Danny Barnes of the narrative team, and lands a little over a week after the studio named the four species shipping at launch.
The framing: these are not the humans of the earlier games. In the Orrian golden age, a thousand years before Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars: Reforged, they are not defending a shrinking empire. They are newcomers. By the game's opening they have been in Tyria for more than seven hundred years, carried there through the Mists by their six gods.
That head start produced four centers of power, and the post names each one: Cantha, centuries deep in dynasties and tradition; Elona, prosperous and wired into the era's trade and politics; Ascalon, the youngest, all borders and military pride; and the Margonites, followers of Abaddon who rule the Crystal Sea.
Orr is the frontier, and that is where the tension sits. The region is home to the Vael, a collection of magical spirits that the devout read as proof the gods chose well, that farmers treat as fertility and hazard in equal measure, and that guilds like the Mavenwrights see as raw material for a stronger future.
Against them stands the Order of the Vael, the oldest guild in Orr and the player's starting guild, sworn to protect those spirits. The full profile is lore only: no classes, no abilities, no dates, and ArenaNet did not say which species is next.
