PlanetSide 2 patches client crashes and brings Koltyr back for off-peak hours
The August 13 patch fixes three causes of client crashes, cuts server memory usage and reopens Koltyr in a separate map pool. On top of that, the Summer Bravo event runs through September 2.
PlanetSide 2 got a maintenance patch on August 13 aimed at the thing players complained about most: the client dropping out mid-fight. It also reopens an old map and kicks off the summer event.
The team says it used diagnostic tools deployed on the live servers to trace where the crashes came from. Three concrete fixes came out of that: a buffer overflow, a floating-point overflow in the world interaction system, and an infinite-loop detector firing on false positives. Server-side memory usage also came down to make server crashes less likely.
One small change is worth calling out on its own: when the crash comes from graphics hardware or the OS, the player now gets the proper Windows error message instead of a silent shutdown. That separates a driver problem from a client bug, which is half the battle when you go to report it.
Koltyr is back as a playable map, in its own pool running alongside the regular continents. The stated goal is a smaller battlefield during low-population hours, when a full continent spreads the fighting too thin.
The Summer Bravo event runs through September 2 with the Operation: Ares directive, handing out certs, ISO-4, molten-themed cosmetics (animated camo, decal and banner), implant packs and the Doomrider title. Meanwhile, maximum pressure alerts are switched on across the continents.
In the depot there's an infantry weapons sale through September 1, anniversary bundles are back, and from August 23 to the 1st there's a clearance on camo and vehicle gear. The full list is in the patch notes.
