Aloft wraps up Early Access on August 26 with a jump to Unity 6

Discovery & Ancestry, Aloft's last Early Access content update, lands on August 26 with an engine change, a rebuilt world and a companion that bends the wind. After that the studio turns to 1.0, still undated.

Astrolabe Interactive and Funcom have dated Discovery & Ancestry, the final Early Access content update for Aloft: it ships on August 26. Once it's out, the team moves entirely onto the 1.0 release, which still has no date.

The heaviest change isn't content, it's foundations: the game moves from Unity 2021 to Unity 6, which the studio ties to performance and visual gains. On top of that come a rebuilt world, a reworked interface, and progression and navigation tweaks meant to give explorers more room.

The visible addition is the Wind Spirit, a companion you have to befriend and that then follows you, guides you and bends the wind, the mechanic everything else hangs on: your home here is an island that sails the sky. Ancestral Memories also arrives, letting you learn skills from your ancestors to unlock character upgrades, alongside new building pieces and stockpiles.

Aloft has been in Early Access since January and has racked up four major updates; this one closes the run. What the announcement doesn't include: patch notes, performance figures, or any word on how much the rebuilt world affects saves already in progress.
