The Division 2 opens up Central Park and finally switches on crossplay

Ubisoft Massive used Gamescom to put two things on the table: the next Division 2 expansion, called Echoes of Central Park, and something agents have been asking for since the game shipped in 2019 — crossplay, landing in November.

The studio spelled out how it works in its event recap: it is on by default and can be turned off from the character selection screen, with the catch that matchmaking then goes back to being locked to your own platform. Clans grow from 50 to 100 members and can mix platforms; leaderboards get a reset.

So far the expansion is more atmosphere than hard detail. Central Park served as a mass burial ground during the outbreak and has stayed unexplored across the series; the story opens with a distress call that goes silent, and the team is promising a tone much closer to horror. No date, no price: that is what the dedicated showcase on September 24 (9 AM PT / 6 PM CEST) is for.

In the meantime, Year 8 Season 3: Red Horizon went live today. It brings the Cleaners to Washington D.C. hunting for fuel, with their own activities and elite kill squads, a pressure gauge that fills through combat and gets tuned with active and passive modifiers, and the toxic PvE Dark Zone made permanent.

Ubisoft also previewed a bit of Season 4: the Black Tusk return, prototype gear is being reworked to lean less on RNG, and Escalations gain protection against disconnects.
