Realm of the Mad God Reworks the Mystic and Kicks Off Season 30: Retrowinds

Season 30 is live with Retrowinds: retro-styled T13 gear, seasonal missions, rotating dungeons and Wind Vortex encounters. The headliner is the Mystic rework, which swaps stasis on almost every orb for a new stacking effect called Hex.

Realm of the Mad God Exalt has launched Season 30, Part 1: Retrowinds, and it's no routine patch. On top of the usual seasonal package — new gear, Battle Pass, missions and dungeon events — this update ships the Mystic rework, a pass on one of the game's oldest classes and one of the least touched over the years. The full patch notes are up on the official hub.

Realm of the Mad God's Season 30 is now live.

Hex: the Mystic stops living off stasis

The real change is conceptual. Stasis is no longer the core of the class and gets relegated to a handful of items; in its place comes Hex, an effect you build by hitting enemies with your weapon, up to a cap of 100 stacks. Stacks fall off after 3 seconds without a new application, and the icon over the enemy fills every 25, so the visual read is designed to tell you when to hit the button.

Firing the ability consumes the accumulated Hex and deals area damage that scales with the stack count, but each orb also has its own threshold and its own extra effect: tiered orbs apply petrify at 25+ stacks, the Enchantment Orb hands out berserk and dexterity buffs, and the Orb of Conflict now spawns damaging shards instead of granting speedy. In practice the Mystic now has two legitimate playstyles: spam the ability on cooldown, or bank stacks for one big detonation. For players who'd rather not change, Soul of the Bearer keeps stasis and speedy with improved stats, and the stasis orbs that remain now share a standardized 6-second duration, with post-stasis immunity bumped from 3 to 6 seconds. There's also a brand-new orb, Titan's Heart, dropping from the Sandstone Titan.

The Mystic rework replaces stasis with Hex, a stacking effect.

Retrowinds: T13 gets nostalgic

Nostalgia is the season's theme, and it shows in the loot. There are retro reskins of T13 gear for daggers, bows, staves, wands, swords and katanas, plus robe, leather and heavy armor, all at Rare rarity and with their own engravings: weapon engravings fire off a 500-damage lightning proc on player shots and add 9% dexterity based on bonus speed, while armor engravings grant dexterity on hit plus a defense bonus. Access runs on tokens: collect 20 of the matching type — weapon or armor — and trade them for a selection chest. Tokens drop from missions, the Battle Pass and the featured dungeons.

The most direct nod to veterans is the 2-Bit Mystic set, an Astral Arcanist reskin done in chunky pixels, alongside the Phylactery Mystic set, whose drop rate has been doubled across every realm source. On the cosmetic side, the Battle Pass hands out skins like Shadow Feather Rogue and Sweep Gator Mystic, and the Celestial Stone Quest rotates skins from Seasons 3 through 6 weekly for anyone who missed them the first time.

Missions, rotating dungeons and Wind Vortex

The season's mission tree is called The Mad God's Tempest and pays out emotes, titles, tokens and engravings. Running alongside it is a rotation of featured dungeons, one per week across four weeks, with rewards for clearing them — and that's where the most entertaining piece of the package lives: Wind Vortex encounters. These are whirlwinds that can spawn when you kill enemies or bosses in those dungeons; beat them and they drop themed emotes and clothing. Puppet Master's Encore, Cultist Hideout, The Void and Davy Jones' Locker spawn 5 to 10 of them after the boss, while The Nest and Ocean Trench carry a smaller chance off regular enemies.

The Mad God's Tempest

For collectors, the season adds six new shinies, among them the Hama Yumi, the Crystalline Sigil and the Elder Heartwood Staff.

What to expect from here

Calling this patch Part 1 already signals a second half of the season on the way, with no date announced yet. In the meantime, what will decide how Retrowinds lands isn't the retro gear but the Mystic: stripping stasis from a class defined by that one tool for over a decade is a bold move, and it'll take weeks of real dungeon runs to know whether Hex leaves it better or merely different. Public testing surfaced several tooltip and orb damage-scaling bugs, so it's worth watching the numbers closely before you rebuild an entire set around them. If the Mystic had gone stale for you, this is the best excuse in years to pull it out of the vault.
