CD Projekt Red puts a year on The Witcher 4: 2028

CD Projekt Red finally attached a year to The Witcher 4: 2028. Studio co-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed it in a video posted to the series' official channels days before Gamescom. There is no month and no quarter, and the studio itself frames 2028 as a target rather than a locked date.

The same video cooled off expectations for this week: The Witcher 4 won't show up at Opening Night Live and won't be playable on the show floor, because the team isn't ready to commit to an exact date. “Let the team cook. It will be worth the wait,” Nowakowski said.

What is travelling to Cologne is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past, a third expansion for a 2015 game. It lands in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, is co-developed with Fool's Theory, and puts Geralt back in the lead. The studio has teased a dark story.

That new footage premieres during Opening Night Live and runs again at the studio's booth. With the sequel parked in 2028 —and with Ciri taking over the lead role from Geralt— the next concrete date on the series' calendar belongs to an expansion for a game that has already sold over 60 million copies.
